MR Application in Neurological Diseases Laboratory
Dr. Moussa’s research focuses on the protective role of parkin against β-amyloid (Aβ1-42) and α-synuclein toxicity at the interface between Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease. The research examines the role of parkin protection against amyloid toxicity of the mitochondria, the proteasome, and tau metabolism in the spectrum of syndromes with Parkinsonism and Dementia.
Magnetic resonance (MR) is used to delineate the mechanisms of glutamate and other neurotransmitters in neurodegenerative diseases using high frequency {¹H-decoupled}-¹³C MR spectroscopy, in vivo MRI/MRS/MRA and other biophysical and molecular techniques.
