Dr Danielsen briefs the Defense Threat Reduction Agency on the FAST system of pathogen detection

Drs. Danielsen and Dretchen briefed DTRA (the US Defense Threat Reduction Agency) on recent developments in a pathogen detection system developed in the Departments of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and Pharmacology at Georgetown University Medical School. The system was initially funded buy a multimillion dollar contract from DTRA for the development of an automated system for the detection of Bacillus anthracis. The system is currently being extended to the field of medical diagnostics and has been shown to detect both pathogenic bacteria and viruses.
